The Story Method.

Instead of trying to remember: "In XYZ vs ABC 2019, the court held that..."

She created a short story where the facts of the case were characters in a drama.

The plaintiff was always a character she imagined.

The issue was the conflict.

The judgment was the resolution.

After reading the story version of a case — she never forgot it.

Our brains evolved to remember stories.

We survived 100,000 years by sharing stories.

Dry legal text is the opposite of how the brain evolved to learn.

Transform dry content into narrative.

Give abstract principles a character.

Give case laws a setting.

This sounds like extra effort.

But students who invest 15 minutes creating a story spend 0 minutes re-memorising it.

Versus students who "read it 10 times" and still forget it.

Your brain isn't broken.

It's just being asked to work against its nature.
